MBO v0.2 Pre-Alpha Source is Released!

It has been almost 14 months since Netamin had shut down on probably and arguably the best MMORPSG ever, Real Baseball Online. 6 months prior to shutting down, UBO (Ultimate Baseball Online) had teamed with Cal Ripkin, Jr. to form Cal Ripken’s Real Baseball Online. Inside sources from Netamin had said that the combined poor marketing strategdy and with the Korean based office not wanting to hire American developers to help with the game was the downfall of the sports game. The game at times was spotty and even with Netamin’s patent p2p networking, some games had failed due to poor latency from users with subpar internet connections.

A few players from the UBO/RBO, lead by screen name Dr. Death, have been diligently working on their own version of the game being called MBOBaseball.  The Download for the pre-alpha cource code is 620 mb in the rar file and expands to almost 1 gb. Instructions are on the MBOBaseball website and requires Unity3D Engine to compile .

Ravens Logo in Federal Appeals Court

Frederick Bouchat, an amateur artist, has asked a federal appeals court to prohibit the Baltimore Ravens from showing their original logo  old game films. A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond heard arguments against the Ravens and NFL films. A jury had ruled in 1998 that the Ravens logo design belonged to Bouchat’s, but did not award damages. The team switched to a new logo the following year. The Ravens have the old logo on their films from their first three seasons as a new franchise in Baltimore. A federal judge had ruled in the Ravens favor saying the use of the logo is incidental and fair use.

So does this mean if you have a design and someone claims that you have copied it, will sue you for copyright infringment? In a short answer, yes. It will not however guarantee them a win and monetary damages. Copyright, by a overall definition, is if you created it, its yours and yours alone. Articles, stories, journals, or computer programs, pictures and graphics, music and song lyrics, etc are examples or copyrighted materials. If you invented something, then you will need a patent.  A trademark is a word, name, symbol or device which is used to distinguish them from the goods of others.

NASCAR Needs to Eliminate the “Playoffs”

I love NASCAR. It is in my blood and because I am a redneck. NASCAR is a sport that you don’t want to toy around too much with, especially the point system. When It was Winston, the point system was just fine. Perhaps there could be some tweaking. Under the old system, a driver didn’t have to win a race to win the championship. He just had to stick in the top 5. With todays racers and the new car, that is virtually impossible. How points are given under the new system, eliminates that. With the “10 race to the chase”, only the top point 12 contenders are vying for the championship in the last 10 races. What this does, a team that “hung around” until they are in the chase for the 12th spot, can win the championship. That is a fine and dandy for sports like football, basketball, baseball, etc, but it does not have a place in NASCAR. With the COT, NASCAR can eliminate the “10 race for the chase” and let the teams and drivers fight it out.
