Is Last Chance for Animals just another PETA?

It takes bad news to bring the less known out into the limelight. Bandwagon jumper if you ask me. The Daily News Record recently ran an article on how a group, who call themselves Last Chance for Animals, had an unnamed “undercover agent” investigating Little Boxwood for about 18 months. The “investigator” probably wants to be remain unnamed because he doesn’t want to deal with any possible gambling charges. The article went one to try  to make him a storybook hero, but in all reality, Last Chance for Animals is just a PETA cloned orginization.   It is kind of ironic that these organizations are basically the pot calling the kettle black because they do not have a proven track record, are basically “ambulance chasers” and looking for ways to get noticed. Who wants to associate with an organization that put down fat people for publicity?

UPDATE: The name of the “undercover informant”  from the Last Chance for Animals was a man by the name of Bryan (Now the news is saying Ray Jones). Bryan stated in the article that he had attended 39 cockfighting events BEFORE he went to the feds with the information.  One or two events would have provided sufficient evidence for the feds to start a formal investigation. He should be found guilty of the misdemeanors and felonies that should be charged against him. This is the same concept as a parent or a concerned citizen that wants to rid their neighborhood of drugs. If you go to the police and you say you bought drugs off them and you give them the evidence, who do you think they will arrest? It won’t be the “said” drug dealers.

On a side note about Danny Presgraves. If Danny was using inmate labor and going through his business to do it, wouldn’t that fall under worker’s release, which is legal?

Should Marijuana be Legalized

marijuanaMarijuana comes from the hemp plant Cannibus Sativa. It is mosty smoked by means of a cigarette, pipe or a bong. In some instances, it is boiled and drank like tea. Conflicting reports suggest that marijuana is use by the American Indians, but only for ”ceremonial” uses. Reports have shown that if used in small amounts, marijuana can heighten senses and awareness. Same reports have shown that prolonged usage can affect the memory later on in life. Compared to cigarette smoking, marijuana has up to 5 times the amount of tar and carbon monoxide output. For medical uses, delta-9-THC, which is the main part of marijuana, has been synthesized for a drug named Marinol to used by patients who have ahd chemotherapy. The delta-9-THC have also been linked to help those with glaucoma. On a side note, if delta-9-THC is mixed with an appetite suppresent, I wonder if this would be the ultimate weightloss pill.

The real reason marijuana is getting so much publicity is that lawmakers have looked towards marijuana to collect taxes. In California, marijuana yields about $14 billion a year. A 10% tax would give the California government $1.4 billion. I imagine the numbers comes from drug busts with the “estimated” street value. If marijuana was legal, it would save the US around $70 billion on policing and courts and would reduce those that are serving for nonviolent drug crimes by about a 1/3 and around the $30 billion to jail them.

Even if marijuana is made legal with restriction, it will be the same as alcohol and cigarettes. It will still be produced “underground”. Underage people will still get some. There will be unlicensed “street vendors”. It will still be smoked at school in a hidden area. Our court system will be filled with underage users, unlicensed dealers, etc.

Seems the lawmakers are letting greed get in the way for a healthy America. They must have forgot what the real effects that marijuana has on the unborn child to a mother who is smoking marijuana. Babies are usually born smaller, low immune systems and if the woman breast feeds, then the baby will develop slower motor functions.

PETA calling overweight women Whales

peta-save-the-whalesPETA is taking aim at becoming the most contriversial organizations in American history. What started out as paint spray can bandits to people wearing fur coats have now become the spokesmodel for “skinny” America. And they are doing this at overweight people expense. They have graduated from using half naked models in their campaigns to comparing overweight women to whales. Dan Shannon, spokesman for PETA, said this morning on the Fox Morning News Show that the billboard is aimed at getting people to start losing weight by becomingvegetarians because vegetarians lose weight quicker than meat eaters and this message is the most effective way to lose weight.  When he was asked if this is PETA’s  attempt to do something outrageous and that the billboard is being disrespectful to call overweight women whales, he replied that PETA is tired of getting bombarded with ads offering buckets of chicken and hamburgers. He also states that when people sees the message that it will hit home to overweight people to lose weight.
