How the Media Shapes Society

I was watching a video on youtube the other say about a Romanian girl rant and rave on Kirk Camerons new book talking about evolution from the Bible perspective. As I listen to the video, I can see how all the years behind the Iron Curtain can shape a mind. She may be too young ever seen the Wall come down, but he shaping had to come from her parents. Then it hit me. Our own government, our media basically does the same thing. Even though we are more liberal, there are some things that are stil scrutinized. Starting with race. The media is great at exploiting this. For example, more African Americans are shown more on the media outlets as being depicted as low income and or criminals. The only time an African American is shown in greatness is through sports. The blackman is often depicted as being lazy and not willing to work. But wasn’t it the white guys who traveled halfway across the world to pull people from their beds and kidnapped them to bring to new world to work in the fields and provide labor, keep them uneducated for fear of an uprising, so they can sit down to get fat and rich because they were too lazy to do their own work?

When I was growing up. The Russians were depectited as the “enemy” of the Cold War. I learned that in schools, thru the news, and when I was in the military. I also saw it watching tv shows and movies, even wrestling. As the “Superpowers” became friends, the media depicted that as well. The Germans? The Japenese? When I was stationed in Germany, I could not believe that 40 years earlier we were enemies.

The Middle Eaast is up and down rollar coaster with the media. They are allies, then enemies, allies, etc. The Muslims always promote themselves as messenger of peace. Then why is it when something gets blown up, then why are they fighting over who gets credit because it was a message of peace?

Here is a good one. The American Indians. We “invade” this country and push these people to small areas, or reservations and we expect them to love us. First off, this is their country. Second, they helped us settle here and looked at how we repaid them. The main source of media back then was newspapers and books. We starve the Indians, take away their homes, have bounties on them for no reason and when there is a killing, they were always the first to blame. The media made them out to be the ultimate “bad guy”. I wondered how our country, the world would be now if we, as a world, in the past had actually took the time to learn from the Indians, the other cultures, instead of trying top one another, I would expect this to be a better world. History does in a sense, repeat itself.

Guess who controls the media.
